Tsitsi Chirozva is an experienced professional in the learning and development sector, having worked with two not-for-profit organisations in South Africa in the fields of youth unemployment and young people’s education and development. Tsitsi has introduced My Learning Hub’s learning management system (LMS) into both organisations and explains why the system is so effective.
Tsitsi Chirozva was working with Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator, a not-for-profit social enterprise addressing the challenge of youth unemployment, on a project in Rwanda when first introduced to learning management systems (LMS). Harambee traditionally ran face-to-face training and was moving towards digital learning delivery to scale up its activities and increase the number of young people accessing its support when the Coronavirus pandemic began.
“When Covid happened, we needed to do all of those things very quickly, so then I transitioned into digital technology role,” says Tsitsi.
Tsitsi had been assessing LMS systems for some time when she discovered My Learning Hub.
“I was doing demos on different platforms, having my colleagues test and provide feedback, but we just couldn’t find something that just quite fitted what we looking for until My Learning Hub. It felt like we were buying into a partnership. They were so willing to make adaptations to the platform. And that’s more the ethos that we value as a brand at Harambee.”
After introducing My Learning Hub’s LMS to Harambee, Tsitsi is now consulting with Afrika Tikkun, another not-for-profit organisation in South Africa, which supports education and development from birth to 35 years. With similar requirements to Harambee, Afrika Tikkum also required an LMS and Tsitsi added My Learning Hub for consideration on the strength of her previous positive experience.
“We went through a similar process trial of a few platforms including My Learning Hub and they loved it. We had a vote and it was unanimous. They just absolutely loved the platform.”
Afrika Tikkum is part of a consortium of four organisations and Tsitsi is now running the implementation of My Learning Hub for all four partners.
With African countries in the early stages of developing the infrastructure needed to support digital communications, the challenges of delivering learning over a digital platform are considerable. Individuals tend to have early generation smartphones and devices, data traffic can be slow and expensive, and coverage can be sparse. Also, some digital learning platforms require coding to author online courses and the teams Tsitsi works with have little or no previous experience of coding or creating these materials.
Afrika Tikkun have successfully implemented 4 separate LMS systems for different organisations within their group with central reporting, built-in authoring tool and managed to get over 185 courses built within a year.
